Adding and Subtracting Integers Summative (Regular)

Our first summative is coming up this Friday on adding and subtracting negative numbers.  Here is a great link with lots of practice problems and videos.  The first two sections on Intro to Adding and Intro to subtraction are probably the most helpful.

MSA Summative 2 Review

Jake and Sally both make breadsticks at the Hot Tomato.  They are very competitive, and whoever makes more breadsticks by the end of the night gets a $50 bonus.  Use the problems below to find out who will make more breadsticks and win the bonus.

1.       Sally times herself and she makes 48 breadsticks in 6 minutes. 

a.       What is Sally’s unit rate per minute?

b.      Make a table to show the relationship between minutes and breadsticks for Sally.

c.       Make a graph to show the relationship between minutes and breadsticks for Sally.

d.      Write an equation to represent Sally’s breadsticks per minute.

e.      How is the unit rate shown in the table, graph, and equation?

f.        What is the third coordinate pair on your graph?  What does each number in the coordinate pair represent?

2.       Jake times himself and he makes 30 breadsticks in 5 minutes, but he goes into work early and makes an extra 50 breadsticks to give himself a head start.  Answer questions a-f for Jake instead of Sally.

3.       After how many minutes do both Sally and Jake have the same amount of breadsticks?

4.       When is the latest they could stop working for Jake to still win?

5.       What is the earliest they could stop working for Sally to win?
